Saddles, architecture and education
Editor’s Note: Earlier we announced the winners of our Yahoo! Young Media Stars, media planners who exemplify the art and science of media strategy. The winners will travel to Advertising Week as Yahoo! guests. Here we introduce Natalie Gengaro of OMD.
What few in Natalie Gengaro’s professional life know about her is that this 29-year-old Yahoo! Young Media Star rode horses competitively for 12 years. As associate director for digital at OMD in Los Angeles, Gengaro today rides herd on all the variables that go into creating a successful campaign. For anyone who has pulled on the boots of a media planner, it’s less like herding horses than herding cats.

Link Redirection Plugin for Affiliates on WordPress
There is a new WordPress Plugin called ThirstyAffiliates to help affiliates with their link management.
I’ve been using Pretty Link to manage my affiliate link redirects for quite a while, but I really like the simplicity and ease of ThirstyAffiliates.
I was curious about the name, and asked the creator, Josh Kohlbach, about it.
He said… “I guess it kind of describes the attitude behind the product. You’ve got to stay thirsty to get success, you know? It kind of just walked into my head one day fully formed and I was like ‘Yeah! That’s exactly what I want it to say.’”
I like the link categories with ThirstyAffiliates, so I can list the affiliate network for a given link, and other details.
Also, there is click data for links for this week, last week, this month, and last month.
There are lots of other features to help manage your links. Check out ThirstyAffiliates.

Publisher News: Marketers Target Infant-to-Three-Year-Old Demographic
Also: Create emotional connections with your customers; stop hiding behind your algorithm; and who’s verifying the ad verifiers?
Targeting the very young and impressionable: AdWeek reports that “desperate” marketers representing brands from Disney to Versace are aggressively targeting a new demographic: children age 0 to 3. And the kids are proving susceptible; studies show that American children can recognize an average of 100 brand logos by age 3, and that some babies “request brands as soon as they can speak.” Online campaigns are jumping in too, because 80% of kids under age 5 cruise the Web weekly.
I’m a little verklempt over my favorite brand: Customer satisfaction isn’t enough. Marketers should build emotional connections with customers, a la Nike or Apple, because those customers are far more likely to buy more, pay more, stay loyal and become brand advocates. Here’s how to start.
Stop hiding behind your algorithm, you sissy: Alan Pearlstein of [...]
